This
was the 3rd annual Pt. Reyes Habitat Restoration Project volunteer
work weekend at Yosemite National Park, and the
first time that Golden Gate
National Recreational Area's Site Stewardship
Program staff, interns and
volunteers joined the Point Reyes volunteer group.
The weekends are always fun because we work amidst
the natural beauty of
green valley meadows surrounded by granite walls
looming 3000' above us.
Volunteer leader Georgia Stigall shares her knowledge
and caring with the
group to create a setting conducive to learning
and good restoration work.
The volunteers come together to share good food
and drink, campfires, walks
and swims, and most of all, the experience of
working together to eradicate
bull thistle, mullein, and other invasive non-native
plants that threaten
priority areas of Yosemite Valley. We are
all thankful to Georgia for
coordinating the work projects and taking care
of the logistics to make
these trips rewarding and enriching parts of
our lives. |
